Richard Soller defends his thesis "Single-Cell Density Mapping and Acoustic Self-Organization in Microfluidic Systems".
He has used ultrasound to fractionate different cells in flow, aiming to one day to be able to isolate cancer stem cells from blood. He discovered a hitherto unknown self-organizing phenomenon which can be utilized to make the sorting process more effective.
