Compulsory assignments

Assignment A1: Research topic (20% of grade)


Reading about a current research topic of your choice.

 

Students should work in groups of 2-4 people, or alternatively individually and choose a research topic. You need to find at least 2 research articles per person about the topic and thoroughly read them. The topic should be presented orally (15 + 5 min for groups, 8 + 5 min for individual students) to the class (either in real life or via Zoom), and a written summary should be handed in (max 3 pages for groups, 2 pages for individual students).

Bone lab (40% of grade)                                            Due: 30/11

 

Combined experimental and practical finite element exercises related to bone mechanics.

The experimental part will displayed and discussed a three-point bending test of a rat femur. The practical finite element exercise will mimic your experimental test using the FE software package Ansys.

One report is completed, where you combine both exercises, including reflection and conclusions, as well as discussion of necessary assumption regarding experimental testing and the numerical modelling.

Also includes calculation problems related to bone mechanics and elasticity. Written solutions should be brought to the experimental lab for discussion.

Handed in individually.

 

 

 

Tendon lab (40% of grade)                          Due: 17/1 - 2021

 

Combined experimental and practical finite element exercises related to tendon mechanics.

 

The experimental part will display and discuss tensile tests of rat tail tendons. The practical finite element exercise will mimic your experimental test using the FE software package Ansys.

One report is completed, where you combine both exercises, including reflection and conclusions, as well as discussion of necessary assumption regarding experimental testing and the numerical modelling.

Also includes calculation problems related to soft tissues, e.g. viscoelastic models. Written solutions should be brought to the experimental lab for discussion.
